Spier
Spier is one of the oldest wine farms in South Africa, with a recorded history dating back to 1692. The first vines were planted in the 1700’s and are believed to have been Chenin Blanc.
Given their choice of terroir, the Spier winemakers have been able to create three ranges each with its own style and sense of place. Spier’s flagship wine, Frans K Smit, is named after our acclaimed Cellar Master as a tribute to his skill and devotion in consistently producing top quality, award-winning wines. Featuring SA heritage varietals Chenin Blanc and Pinotage, our 21 Gables range is our top tier and celebrates the history of winemaking in South Africa, as well as the farm’s unique architectural feature: an unrivalled 21 historic Cape Dutch gables. The range, Spier Creative Block, is named after a Spier art project which was designed to stimulate and support the South African art community. These blends represent the best of inter-regional vineyard blocks and cultivars. The Spier Signature range is our classic everyday drinking range.
